Dealing with Controversy as a CreatorTips 2024. 7. 29. 18:11
Living as a creator means having fans who support you. However, where there is light, there are also shadows. Some people may simply leave when things don't meet their expectations, but others might express their anger and create conflict. It’s rare for someone to remain unaffected by negative comments about themselves, and these issues should not be ignored. Resolving problems is crucial.
So, how can you effectively handle such issues?
1. Resolve Issues Through Dialogue, Not Public CriticismIt's natural to feel angry when you see negative comments, but publicly criticizing the person on the spot may not be the best approach. Flexibility in response is important, but often the best first step is to attempt a one-on-one, gentle conversation with the individual. Public criticism can wait if necessary. While publicly calling someone out can be a strategy, frequent use can tarnish your image with your fans, who may fear that they too could be publicly criticized someday.
However, if you can remain calm and composed, addressing the issue publicly might be beneficial. The key is not to prove who is right or wrong but to recognize the other person as an individual and maintain a problem-solving attitude through dialogue.
2. Set Clear Boundaries
Setting boundaries is very important. As a creator, you produce content and are the focal point of that content. You must remember that you cannot handle everything perfectly. While you can engage to a certain extent, you are not obligated to respond to every question or request from fans.
To protect yourself, establish clear boundaries from the start. There’s no need to respond to matters that cross these boundaries. If an issue is particularly troubling and hard to resolve, don't hesitate to seek help from Fantrie staff. We are here to assist you in the best possible way from a creator’s perspective.
3. Listen to Other Opinions with an Open Mind
Conflicts and issues are inevitable at some point. When your views differ from those of your fans, try not to feel hurt or react with anger immediately.
Although it's natural to feel upset, instead of responding right away, put down your smartphone, turn off your computer, and take some time for yourself outside. Talking to a close friend with a completely different perspective can also be very helpful.
Always be willing to learn and do not fear change. Maintain an empathetic attitude towards your fans' thoughts. Your fans' support and encouragement are essential for your long-term success as a creator.
